ANDRÉ MALRAUX: His Philosophy and Art - Temptations of the Orient and Japan |
|
| |
 | | Frenchman André Malraux (1901-1976) was a writer and art critique of profound dimensions, who also served as a politician under President Charles De Gaulle. Asia was a favorite focus of his profound intellectual powers, as he explored the limitations and extentions of Western culture through comparisons with the Orient and other cultures. He explored the depths of art with extraordinary sensitivity and critical eye. His most profound observations are reflected in "Le Monde des Formes", a collection of his art theories, and particularly in "La Métamorphose des Dieux", "Les Musées Imagainaires" and "L' Antimémoires". He visited Japan four times beginning in 1931. |
