Academic Programs- Basic Education Courses
Basic Education (BE) courses are designed to build a sound educational foundation, upon which students can build their own specialized and advanced education. However, BE plays a more important role in the personal development of AIU students, which is to support young women and men as they become well-educated citizens and leaders in the global society-thereby adding to the students' depth of knowledge a breadth, or universality, which is the hallmark of a liberal arts education.
The ideals of the liberal arts curriculum, which have remained the core of university educational traditions through the centuries, have taken an even more central position as a result of the most recent reforms within colleges across the world. Shown in the diagram below, using a variety of "methods of inquiry," the BE curriculum at AIU encourages our students to achieve "educational goals."
