Housing
Summer Program participants will live in furnished on-campus housing. There are three types of accommodation on the AIU campus:
Summer Program students will be assigned to double rooms in our on-campus housing.
Each student will be able to have a Japanese or international roommate and/or suite mate (a roommate is a student who shares a room and a bathroom; a suite mate is a student who shares only a bathroom). Information about your roommate and/or suite mate will be announced on your arrival. We are not able to provide the information such as name, nationality, and contact address of your roommate and/or suite mate before your arrival.

Internet access
You can access the Internet with your own computer by using an Ethernet cable or wireless Internet in the AIU Library and Komachi Dormitory. Use of phone software (e.g., Skype) is acceptable in on-campus residences, but not in the computer laboratories.
Kanto Festival
If you wish to join the Akita Kanto Festival*, starting on August 3, accommodations will be available until 5:00 p.m., August 4. Fees for extra nights will NOT be charged, but participants are requested to pay for meals on a cash basis for any extra days.
*”Akita Kanto Festival” is one of the most famous summer festivals in Japan. AIU’s Kanto Team will participate in the Kanto performance. Please click here for details of the event.
Telephone use in room
Room telephones are available only for internal calls in the Komachi Dormitory. Room telephones are NOT available in Global Village Apartments and University Village Apartments. To make international or external calls, a pay phone is available in the lobby of Komachi Dormitory. If you would like to receive outside calls, you need to have your own cell phone or phone software with your own computer. You can find several rental cell phone services in Japan on the Internet.
Meal Plan
The program fee includes a meal plan at the cafeteria. The cafeteria serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner to residential students. The meal plan begins with lunch on June 18, 2012 and ends with lunch on July 27, 2012. Please click here for details of the cafeteria. Students who wish to join the Akita Kanto Festival” are requested to pay for meals on a cash basis for any extra days.
Campus
Akita International university is located in a rural area, ideal for experiencing traditional Japanese culture and rich natural beauty.

The campus is conveniently located 10 minutes by car from the Akita Airport. There are regular busses to the nearby Aeon shopping center and JR Wada train station. (Wada station is just two stops from downtown Akita station.) Bus schedules and other access information are available on the access page.
Aeon shopping center includes brand name clothing stores (e.g., UNIQLO), a grocery store a pharmacy, numerous restaurants and coffee shops, atheater multiplex cinema, a bank, ATM machines, etc. It is generally open from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
A large public sports complex is located just across the road from the AIU campus. The sports facility includes an all-purpose gymnasium, tennis courts, athletic track fields, cycling paths,archery fields, baseball diamonds, and weight training rooms. Personal use of these facilities costs a few hundred yen, but AIU use of these facilities through sponsored student clubs.

Insurance
All Summer Program participants will obtain basic overseas travel insurance arranged by AIU between the dates of June 14 and August 7 (JST). However, we also recommend that you obtain your own overseas travel insurance.

The insurance covers the bearer from the time he/she leaves home to travel to Japan until the time he/she arrives back home, between the dates of June 14 to August 7 (55 days). The bearer is covered for additional travel both in and outside of Japan, provided that it occurs between the above-mentioned dates as part of the trip to or from Japan.
You may opt to upgrade or add the following optional insurance to the insurance package described above(please contact us for details).
