MESSAGES FROM PROGRAM PARTICIPANTS

NOZOMI TAKEUCHI, A SUMMER PROGRAM LANGUAGE TUTOR

Nozomi Takeuchi participated in Japanese language conversation class for Summer Program participants for three years as an assistant tutor.

 

Every summer brings new encounters and wonderful experiences. I have participated in the Japanese conversation partner program for three years. There, I met with students twice a week in the class, and talked with them about our cultures, dreams, daily life and so on. 

 

 

 For me, the most impressive thing was the Summer Program students’ bright, fresh enthusiasm. They tried to learn all they could about Japanese language and culture. I always enjoyed my time with them. I also talked a lot with them outside the class. Also, through the Japanese Conversation Friends (JCF) activity, we experienced Japanese culture together. By participating in the conversation partner program, I learned about many cultures. Additionally, it gave me a chance to think more about Japan, Japanese language and culture and myself. I became reacquainted with many things around me I had taken for granted. I think they felt the same way.

 

 

This August, I visited Singapore and met with friends who had participated in the Summer Programs in 2007 and 2008. My friends gathered and held a reunion for me. They still remember Akita International University, and asked about their friends and teachers there. Though they stayed in Akita for just six weeks, I think our friendships will last forever. I hope next summer will also bring new encounters and a wonderful time at Akita International University
