HOW TO APPLY FOR FALL SEMESTER 2010

Online Application Guidelines

All applicants who wish to study at Akita International University for one or two semesters starting in the Fall Semester 2010 as exchange / non degree-seeking students must meet the following requirements:


Eligibility to Apply for Fall Semester 2010

    • Enrollment Status - Applicants must be enrolled at their home university / college both at the time of application and during their stay at Akita International University and have completed at least two semesters of studies at the time of application.

    • GPA - Applicants must have a cumulative GPA (Grade Point Average) of 2.50 or higher.

    • English Proficiency - Applicants whose first language is not English must have a TOEFL score of 500 (PBT) or higher. Please see our website for a list of acceptable certificates (PDF).

     

Important Notes before You Start the Online Application

  • Prepare the following required materials for submission on hand:
    a) Official Academic Transcript of Home University
    b) Personal Statement of Purpose (300-500 words)
    c) Proof of English Language Proficiency, if applicable
    d) One ID Photo


 

It is important that you provide your E-mail address correctly because you will receive a "Confirmation Sheet" in PDF file by E-mail after you complete and submit the online application to us. For this reason, the E-mail address of your cell phone is not acceptable.

Visa to Enter Japan

All international students staying in Japan over 90 days must obtain a visa. For a visa application, you must apply for a Certificate of Eligibility at the immigration office in Japan through Akita International University. You will not be able to apply for a visa without the Certificate of Eligibility.

Please send all of the following required documents to us by airmail along with your complete application package. In case your application is not accepted or you withdraw your application, all the materials related to the application for the Certificate of Eligibility will be returned to you upon your request.

  • Financial Statement
    Submit one or more of the following documents which indicates that you have sufficient financial resources to cover your study abroad expenses, including tuition, room and board, and living costs, which would be at least 350,000 Yen per semester.

    Financial Statement showing the latest balance (within a month from your application date) in your bank account is preferable. Financial statement showing the latest balance in your financial supporter’s bank account is acceptable. Documents about your financial aids (student Loan, etc) or scholarships are also acceptable.

    Note: If you submit a financial statement of your financial supporter, provide supporting documentation as proof of the relationship between you and the financial supporter stated on the document.

  • Copy of Passport
    Photocopy of your passport showing all information clearly. If your current passport will expire during your stay in Japan, make sure that you renew it before leaving your home country.

  • Additional One ID Photo
    • Passport size (3 cm x 4 cm) photo that clearly shows your head and shoulders.
    • A personal snapshot is not acceptable; this must be an official ID photo.
    • Photo in which you wear sunglasses and a cap/hat is not acceptable.
    • Photo which is printed by a color printer is not acceptable.

Following the Step by Step Application Procedures, upon completion of your online application, please first scan all the required admission documents and send the PDF file to us at international@aiu.ac.jp. We must receive the original copy of all the documents to apply for your Certificate of Eligibility.
